Te Amo

The next morning when we woke from our slumber there was a knock on the door. Still feeling somewhat out of place I sprang from the bed and quickly covered myself with the clothes that I came from the hospital with.

“You're fine Melanay. Why did you jump up like that?”

“Because Yamil, I don't know who it is and it is rude not to be dressed in front of company.”

Yamil went to open the door and I sat on the bed Indian style.

“Who is it?”

“It is me Moody.” Justine announced using her nickname.

When Yamil swung the door open, I was surprised to see that she was holding her daughter Faith in her arms. She was absolutely adorable. I couldn’t wait to have a child of my own.

“Hey Cousin Mill,” she yelled jumping in his arms.

“Aww, she is so pretty Justine.”

She walked up to me and touched my face ever so soft. The expression she displayed was that of much concern.

“My name is Faith. What happen to your face?” She quizzed.

“Hello, nice to meet you Faith. I’m Melanay. I fell down and hurt myself,” I lied with a twinge of guilt.

Ugh, I really didn't enjoy lying to a child, but the reality of my injuries wasn't something that I was about to disclose either. I felt it was something that she wouldn’t understand or need to worry herself with.

“Come on here Faith and stop being so nosey,” Justine scolded. “Ma wanted me to come get you all for breakfast.”

“Okay we will be right down,” Yamil replied.

“Well don't take all morning, and Melanay there's some clothes for you to wear in the bathroom. I went shopping this morning and picked you up a few things.”

“Thank you Justine, but that wasn't necessary Chica, I have stuff at my place that I could have worn.”

“Don't worry about that Melanay, we're gonna take care of you while you're here. Besides going to your place right now isn't the best idea Melanay,” Justine explained. “Oh, and you know you can call me Moody. You’re like family girl!”

“She will be just fine Moody, I will help her get used to things,” Yamil spoke up.

“Alright Cousin, you guys have a little time before mommy gets done cooking so I will see you in a few.” Justine walked out the door with Faith on her heels.

I appreciated their hospitality, but I didn't want them to think I was needy by any means. I had been independent for years, and I felt more humble when I took care of myself.

“Te Amo Melanay,” Yamil stated embracing me.

“What does that mean?”

I wasn't up on Spanish at all. I knew the basics, like hi and bye, but that was it.

“It means I love you.” he kissed my lips and immediately sent chills through my body.

“Well Te Amo, to you too,” I giggled.

We made out for a few more minutes until I wiggled from underneath him.

“I need to take me a quick shower hun.”

“I can get in with you, no?” He requested.

“Um, not this time baby,” I replied.
